Ex-Celtics star DJ dies at 52: Toros coach collapses in Texas

The only black guy I ever saw back then with freckles. There are a few in the league now, Tayshaun "Curios George" Prince on my Pistons for one. Part of the ugliest team in NBA history with Bird, Mchale and Parrish. That Celtics team, however played when the NBA didn't suck so much.

DJ was part of one of the biggest plays in Pistons history when they took a game away and a trip to the NBA Finals when the old: "There's a steal by Bird, he passes to DJ...." call tore the heart out of us Pistons fans while Zeke stood on the sideline and looked like someone just killed his parents.

Johnson, 52, had finished coaching the Austin (Texas) Toros of the NBA Development League in a practice and was speaking with a member of the organization on a sidewalk outside the Austin Convention Center, joking about a parking ticket, when he was stricken. Paramedics tried for 23 minutes to revive Johnson before taking him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“We were laughing,” said team spokeswoman Perri Travillion. “He just collapsed.”
