Apparently there is still hope, but not much.

In fact, Dish Network and iN Demand (which, in essence, represent TimeWarner, Comcast, and Cox) have until the end of the month to agree to terms already set forth by DirecTV in its $700 million agreement, including carrying the MLB network, which won’t even hit the airwaves until 2009. If no agreement is reached, DirecTV will be the only source for Extra Innings, leaving thousands of displaced fans without a package they had come to rely on.

Baseball needs more, not less games on TV

Couldn't agree more buddy, and this article really pisses me off if what he is saying is true about only being able to get the MLB package on DirecTV and not on Dish Network anymore, which I have. I planned on getting this package for the first time this year and if I can't it is going to annoy me to no end. I don't want to watch games on my computer. I have too much other stuff I need to be doing on my computer to have it tied up with baseball games. I want it on my TV so I can work while I watch!

Dominic Rhodes signs with Raiders

He got himself a 2 year deal that is said to be $7.5 Million. Rhodes split time with the rookie sensation Joseph Addai last year as the Colts marched on to win the Super Bowl. The Raiders on the other hand have the top pick in the draft. Rhodes isn't really a feature back of any sort so i don't see what the Raiders are going to do with them unless they are just holding the spot for whoever they draft.

Giants Get Running Back Rueben Droughns in Trade

Well....looks like they aren't going to be interested in Tatum Bell. Might as well keep him in Detroit and see what happens.

The Browns got Tim Carter out of the deal, a WR from Auburn, who has drafted in the 2nd round in 2002. In five seasons and 11 starts, Carter has 72 catches for 967 yards and three touchdowns.

Droughns found his success under Mike Shannahan in Denver and put together a nice year his first season in Cleveland. Last season he was limited and only started 12 games. He failed to reach the 1,000 yard plateu last season.

They Giants apparently aren't ready to hand the every down duties to the freak Brandon Jacobs and want to continue a commitee approach after the retirement of Tiki Barber. I don't forsee Droughns fulfulling that role so Jacobs should get his share of the workload.

Calhoun left kicking & screaming

It has been a frustrating, disappointing season for UConn basketball. And it finally caught up with Jim Calhoun midway through the second half of a possibly season-ending 78-65 loss to Syracuse in the first round of the Big East Tournament yesterday at the Garden.

A red-faced Calhoun - his team down 62-48 - was hit with a technical foul when he exploded at official Mike Stevens, who Calhoun felt had missed a foul on his sophomore forward Jeff Adrien going to the basket (Stevens called Adrien for a walk instead). Calhoun kicked the scorer's table in disgust, then spun around and started to jaw with Stevens.

TV cameras focused on the dent Calhoun's kick produced.

This wasn't supposed to happen to this storied program, which is just a year removed from being a No.1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies weren't supposed to be 17-14, finish 12th in the league and be questionable for an NIT bid. Baggage handlers brought guns, drugs on flight

ORLANDO, Fla. - Two baggage handlers carried a bag containing guns and drugs on a commercial flight from Florida to Puerto Rico, but passengers were in no danger, a Transportation Security Administration spokesman said.

The baggage handlers used their employee uniforms and airport identification cards to enter restricted areas, bypass screeners with the bag and board the commercial Delta flight, according to court documents released Wednesday.

NFL Looks at Effects of Head Injuries

Mar. 8--Confronted with unhappy and increasingly unhealthy retired players, the NFL is embarking on a study of concussions -- estimated to cost as much as $3 million -- in search of evidence of chronic brain dysfunction.

Dr. Ira Casson, co-chairman of the league's research team on concussions, this week said he hopes to answer the ominous question "of whether or not a career in the NFL results in any kind of chronic brain injury."

To a number of retired players, including several former Colts, that answer is already in.

Merril Hoge was forced to retire from the Chicago Bears after suffering two concussions within the span of 42 days early in the 1994 season. He says he never had a follow-up evaluation after the first one and was back on the practice field five days later.

When Hoge, a running back, suffered a second concussion six weeks later, he says he stopped breathing in the locker room and nearly died.

Bills trade RB McGahee to Ravens

Whoa...the Ravens didn't waste any time replacing Jamal Lewis it seems. They went from a guy that was sort of washed up to a guy that is plagued with injuries, but has huge potential.

The trade is pending a physical that is likely to take place on Friday. The Ravens will send three draft picks, two in this year's draft and one in 2008, to the Bills in exchange for the versatile tailback.

"This is a runner who can make people miss and has the explosion and speed to take it the distance," said Baltimore general manager Ozzie Newsome. "He also has the power and size to run inside. He's a viable receiver out of the backfield and is a good pass blocker, not something every back can do. Kobe Bryant Suspended Again

NEW YORK - Kobe Bryant was suspended one game by the NBA on Wednesday for striking a player in the face, his second penalty for that action in a little more than a month.

And if he does it again, he could be looking at a more severe punishment.

"We considered suspending him for multiple games," NBA executive vice president Stu Jackson said on a conference call. "Certainly if this occurs again, most likely there would be multiple games."

The most recent incident came with 58 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of the Lakers' 117-107 double-overtime loss to Minnesota on Tuesday night, when Bryant struck Timberwolves guard Marko Jaric after taking a shot. read more...

Addressing Needs on the Front

Apparently the Lions did actually address a need recently by signing defensive end Dewayne White.

Rocket pops in

Not that I dislike Roger Clemens, but I'm getting tired of hearing about how he may or may not play. He will play half the year and still make more than about 99% of the players int he league. I'm not sure i am really on board with the tactics he has taken the last couple of years. I forsee a new "Roger Clemens" rule being adopted by the leauge that doesn't allow players to participate int he playoffs if they were not playing all year for soemthing other than a suspension or injury.

TAMPA - Roger Clemens made an appearance at his old spring training home last night, but the Rocket seems no closer to making a decision on his baseball future than he has been all winter.

Clemens said it "still holds true" that he likely won't decide until May whether to pitch in 2007, though his agents, Alan and Randy Hendricks, are keeping him up to date on all teams' interest in his services.

The Angels could attempt to suspend Gary Matthews Jr. or void his five-year, $50 million contract if the outfielder doesn't come clean on his alleged purchase of HGH, a major league source told the New York Daily News.

Good luck with that. It's hard to blame Matthews for not talking, regardless of what he may or may not have done. Even Jason Giambi never truly admitted using steroids. If the Angels try disciplining Matthews for allegedly receiving HGH at a time when it wasn't even on MLB's banned substances list, they're going to face a grievance and almost certainly lose it. Hank Blalock is a fantasy Gem this year

Hank Blalock was once ranked in the top 20 I believe in fantasy baseball and seems to have fallen off the map. The guy in many cases I've seen hasn't even been ranked in the Top 20 of 3rd basemen this year. The guy is under 25 years old and has monster potential. Hitting behind Michael Young who is a batting average champ contender every year and a great all around hitter this guy could be incredible this year and a great, great value for you in the draft. More seasoned players may think of him as a decent option still, but many have just given up on the guy. I'm here to tell you that I think he can be a monster steal in the draft this year.

With 3rd base being very strong i would see if I could get Blalock later on and stack my pitching staff and other fielding positions until you think you can snag Hank.

Cabrera looks to shake his walks on the wild side

Cabrera has all the talent in the world, but he is so damn wild. This guy can go and strike out 12 and allow no runs, while the next game he pitches he will walk 7 and get shelled. This article tries to claim that he is trying to control himself a bit more, but I have my doubts the guy can put it all together.

Fantasy Baseball Bust of the Year

My fantasy baseball bust of the year is going to be Jose Reyes. I like the kid and he has great talent, but all rankings seem to have this guy sitting in the Top 3. I don't get it. Short stop is stacked this year and anyone that has to use their pick ont his kid in the top 5 is going to cost themselves IMO. I don't see him having a better year than last year. In fact I see him struggling quite a bit and I see me getting him for shit 2 months into the season from whoever drafted him.

2nd Base is pretty week in fantasy baseball this year

There is nobody. Other than Chase Utley you haven't much to choose from. Soriano now only qualifies int he outfield so you have to really consider ignoring 2B in the draft n my opinion. If you can snag Utley you are one lucky SOB, but the postion is likely going to be best suited for finding your man in the free agent pool this year I think.

Other than 2nd base it seems like the reast of the positions are stacked. Short stop in particular looks better than it has for years. Pitching has a lot of rookie sensations from last year, but I consider pitching a crap shoot unless you have Santana or Carpenter.

Martinez throws for first time since surgery

Pedro is a guy that I really like. HE may be an a-hole many times, but I think he is one of the most underrated pitchers in this era. He doesn't seem to get the press he once did which baffles me. Even being in New York he still isn't always mentioned with the guys as being the legend he is. This guy has some of the best stats of wany pitcher in the last 20 years and no one seems to mention him in casual discussions as one of the greatest ever. It baffles me. People recognize he is great when he is brought up, but he just doesn't seem to get the credit he deserves in my mind.

Got himself a home run in spring training finally I noticed. I don't like the guy. I don't like his act of playing the guy who doesn't understand English when he is in trouble. He had a corked bat, he has obviously taken steroids, and he is washed up. I do not want to see him in the league anymore.

Falcons sign WR Joe Horn

That Falcons team has the worst receivers I've ever seen. Last year they had no players of any fantasy value catching the ball. At least Horn has something left in the tank, but I don't see this as being that big a deal. The Saints had a huge boost last year from a guy that came out of nowhere. Mawrques Colston was one of the last 10 picks int he draft and just destroyed the league. Though of as a tight End he just dominated and really was the best rookie in the league even though Reggie Bush was the one on the team getting all the attention.

I've always like Joe Horn so I hope he can find a way to help that team, but Vick is still not a great QB and I will say that forever. The option doesn't work int he NFL.

Now in Cleveland, where the Ravens team was originally from ironically, he will replace Droughns who was a so-so running back and now is out of a job.

Lebron is on my fantasy team so I guess it is a good headline for me if I wasn't a Pistons fan. Losint to Miami with out Wade and the Cavs who are going to meet us int he playoffs isn't the way to tell the league you have any shot at challenging the Mavs this year. RB Brown scheduled to visit Lions

So we trade Dre Bly, an All-pro corner to get Tatum Bell, Ducket has visited, and now Chris Brown is going to come in. I've heard rumors about the Giants being interested in Tatum Bell, so we may be trying to make something happen by getting another back. If you remember Kevin Jones has an injury that may keep him out most of the year and even when he does come back there is a chance that he is going to be limited and never the same. I'm not a KJ fan all that much anyways and Bell is probably a better long-term solution for this franchise anyways with MArtz running the offense.

I don't talk much about the Lions because they piss me off. They are the worst franchise in sports.

I love Dombrowski. The guy just "gets it" as a GM in the MLB. He drafts pitching, pitching, and more pitching. He signs extra closers every year, or guys that have closer experience.

Now that the Tigers are actual contenders he has 2 big assets to intrigue other teams that are out of it at the trade deadline, or those that need someone to close the door on opponents. I'm a big believer that closers are gold on the trading table. Every year teams are possibly that guy away from making the playoffs. Closers, and former closers have great value to teams. Look at what DD got from Philly when they offed Ugeth Urbina. We got our #2 hitter in Placido Polanco who is one of the best contact hitters in the league and really the driving force in our line up. As Placido goes, the offense goes. The guy has played excellent 2nd base since he came here and has just been a great team guy.

Back to pitching though. Almost our entire rotation is home grown, or will be. Bonderman, Robertson, Andrew Miller (future freak), etc. etc. Dombrowski went out and got the veteran Kenny Rogers that we have been missing to help these young guys learn the game better. On top of that he did one of the best moves you can possibly do when he got Pudge to sign here. A Hall of Fame catcher that knows how to call a game and has passion.

Leigh is a girl gamer? Awesome. Glad to see a lady gamer around. They are more common than they used to be, but still too few of them. She has a dear of moving to Key West or Bust. Even if it takes her until she is 80 she is going to move there. I know the feeling. I live in Michigan and it ugly right now in the winter. I grew up wanting to move to Cali and just never made it out of here because my family depends on me too much.

I can identify a lot with this blog actually the more I read it. I've had many of the same experiences and it is interesting to see someone write about things that are so familiar to me, and not just the gaming aspect. Her experience with MMORPGs made me laugh as I have some of those experiences with Socom Clans and other shooters I play online.

Anthrax has their own blog. No, not the band, but the disease that gained prominance after the 9/11 terrorist attack with stories int he news about it being spread through the mail to unsuspecting Americans. The blog called The Sanctuary is written by Anthraxxxx about any and all randomness he thinks of on a given day. He doesn't claim to be on top of the music scene in his post about an MTV video, but I'm not real up to date either so it isn't like I'm a head of him for popular music...lol

Got linked by the author of Off the Cuff recently from one of their other sites which is a PR5 page. LEast I can do is give them a few extra links to their blog Off the Cuff and write a short review about it.

Bonderman adding the circle change to his arsenal?

I was browsing around yesterday and saw a couple mentions that Verlander was showing him how to grip and throw a circle change yesterday. Bondo has a great slider and a mid 90s fastball that he works with and a bit of a change up that he hasn't really gotten down yet. IT will be interesting to see how he does with this circle change. Anything that makes him harder to hit is great with me. He proved he's a big game pitcher in the playoffs and we are all hoping that this is truly his breakout year. The dude is only 24 years old, but has been in the league since that record loss season of 119 so he still has quite a birght future a head we hope.
